- lococrazy1121Dec 25, 2017★ ★ ★ ★ ★31 years wasted... I was born and raised in Lubbock and outside of 4 years living elsewhere I’ve somehow always found an excuse to not try this local staple while living here. That ended today.
Real barbecue lovers should recognize that the small shack like demeanor is often where you find the best and this is no exception. Just a few chairs around the outside with small but adequate island for condiments in the middle is all this standout needs. The inside is decorated with aged and new local articles, cheer posters, and framed articles about the joint from multiple publications.
Walked in to find a high school buddy ordering for his office and asked for his recommendation having known the guy behind the counter by name. I ordered “the Ian” (chopped bbq with jalapeño cheddar sausage) as well as the sliced brisket sandwhich to go.
I came early so the wait was short and the anticipation was high. Hitting the condiment island, I had to check out the homemade sweet and standard bbq sauces. Both were fantastic in flavor, color, and viscosity. It was a great sign of what was to come.
These sandwiches did not disappoint. Started with the sliced brisket and it was a perfect mix of lean to fatty pieces while every bite was perfectly smoked. The bun was perfectly fresh while being toasted to an exact golden brown. I opted with a healthy drizzle of the standard sauce and it was heaven together.
The “Ian” was equally impressive with its nice balance of homemade jalapeño cheddar sausage and chopped brisket. The sausage carried a slow lingering heat that I found mild but some might find spicy if they have a low tolerance for spice. Pairing the sweet barbecue sauce with this one was a great choice.
This place lives up to the hype and there is no surprise as to why they have been a must try for lunch barbecue in LUBBOCK.
*make sure you ask for sauce or get some on the side because the sandwiches come dry otherwise*
